ArtShare, will be hosting free and open to all workshops to give the opportunity to ALL northeasters to be part of the 82nd Annual Northeast Parade. Saturday, May 21 saw the kickoff of Green Schools with Jayni and Chevy Chase in attendance. Featured at Thomas Edison High School, the event included youth art activities, and Art-a-Whirl Gallery exhibit and a community BBQ at Jackson Square Park. The Holland Neighborhood’s biggest fundraiser, decidedly Northeast, was held on April 30 at the Grace Center. Celebrity judges from local chefs, public figures and artists were on hand to judge the supreme hotdish. Article reprinted from the Northeaster, July 29, 2009 by Gail Olson Northeast’s Holland neighborhood might soon be the site of a new Dutch Master Mural, if a proposed art and education plan is successful. Resident Mark Lynch, who said some of his ancestors were Dutch, is a fervent Vermeer fan: Vermeer being Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), a Dutch Master whose oil paintings hang in such world-renowned museums as the Lourve. One Vermeer, “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” gained recent fame after being featured in a novel and 2003 movie, “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” staring Scarlett Johansson.
