Putting the ‘Green’ in Green Space: A Northeast Community Discussion

The City of Minneapolis Public Works, Minneapolis Public Schools, Minneapolis Parks & Recreation & Preventing Harm Minnesota have teamed up to develop healthy & sustainable land management practices and projects for the “Green Campus” of Edison High School, the Flood Basin & Jackson Square Park, which together comprise a significant block of open space in our community. As a first step, Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) is funding a feasibility study to develop project ideas to improve water quality in this area. Traffic Study Now Online

The city’s “Travel Demand Management Plan” related to the proposed household hazardous waste/voucher program facility at 340 27th Ave. NE is now online at: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/solid-waste/docs/TrafficStudy.pdf City officials will discuss the plan at the Thursday, Oct. 14, Holland neighborhood meeting. Waste Site Survey Results Announced

Modern Survey provided pro bono research and survey services to the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association to gather insights into the neighborhood’s opinion of a proposed HHW site in Northeast. 1,921 survey invitations were sent to Holland neighborhood residents and businesses.  Survey invitations were sent via US Mail.  Residents had the option to complete a paper survey and return it in a business reply envelope, or complete the survey on the web.  Each survey invitation included a unique pass code to ensure only one survey response per household could be submitted.  The survey administration period lasted approximately two weeks. 316 surveys were submitted, for a response rate of 16.4%.  Of the 316 survey responses, 278 were paper surveys and 39 were web surveys.
