Holland Residents Needed for Study on Urban Yards and Neighborhoods

Do you see connections between yards and your neighborhood? Do you have access to using a yard space? What is your backyard like? What is your front yard like? What do you like best and least about your yard spaces? A graduate student at the University of Minnesota is studying how yards fit into everyday life and neighborhoods in different areas of Minneapolis. She is talking with and visiting residents’ front and back yards as part of the study. Holland or Sheridan residents can find out more and/or participate by contacting her. Yard visits take about an hour. Schedules are very flexible, and every kind of yard is of interest – renters and non-gardeners are encouraged to participate! Neighborhood Meets at Green Initiatives BBQ

On August 4th, at Jackson Park a meeting was held at Jackson Square Park to discuss the Green Initiatives ideas for the Edison Campus area. Julia Earl of Preventing Harm Minnesota facilitated the meeting. Lisa Brock of Council member Reich’s Office flyered residents in the area immediately around the Edison Campus to invite people to this meeting. Council Member Kevin Reich opened the meeting with Liz Wilenski of the Minneapolis Park Board. They discussed how Jackson Park’s softball field will have new turf and a sprinkler system this fall. This will make the field good enough for Edison High School to use the field for Girls softball. Liz also explained that a temporary softball field wall would be put up for the softball games. NRP Funding Bill Not Heard in Legislature

The Minnesota State Legislature did not hear (or vote) on bills HF1385 and SF953 during the most recent session. The bills, which are opposed by the City Council, aim to reinstate NRP funding.
