Open Streets NE is coming to Central Ave!
Open Streets NE 2025 is a free, family-friendly street festival taking place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 11 AM to 5 PM along Central Avenue NE between 14th Street and Lowry Avenue. Hosted by the Coalition of Northeast Minneapolis Neighborhoods in partnership with the City of Minneapolis (lead sponsor), the event transforms the avenue into a car-free space for walking, biking, art, music, and community connection.
As part of one of Minneapolis’ seven Cultural Districts, Open Streets NE highlights the vibrant diversity, creativity, and local businesses that make Northeast Minneapolis special. Attendees can enjoy live music, a resource fair, Lucha Libre wrestling, interactive art, skateboarding demos, family activities, food vendors, a beer garden, and much more!
Open Streets Central Ave NE is made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors: City of Minneapolis, Pilllar Coffee & Skate Shop, Bauhaus Brew Labs, Turbo Tim’s, Improving, Francis, Eastside Food Co-op, Audubon Neighborhood Association, Windom Park Citizens in Action, Lower Northeast Neighborhood Association, Holland Neighborhood Association.
Whether you’re exploring new businesses, enjoying local art, or dancing in the street with neighbors, Open Streets Central Ave NE is your invitation to experience community in a whole new way.

HNIA Board Candidate FAQ
Considering running for the board? Here’s what you need to know!
What is HNIA’s mission statement?
The Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association (HNIA) works to represent, organize, and engage residents in Northeast Minneapolis to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, or play in the Holland neighborhood. We are committed to equity, sustainability, and creating a thriving community through collaboration and grassroots leadership.
What is HNIA’s history?
HNIA is a neighborhood-based nonprofit founded to support residents in shaping the future of Holland. For decades, we’ve led initiatives related to community safety, arts and culture, environmental sustainability, housing support, and civic engagement. We are a member of the Neighborhoods 2020 initiative and continue to evolve based on community needs.
What are the board members’ responsibilities?
Board members are responsible for:
Attending monthly board meetings and major events
Participating in at least one committee or project
Reviewing and approving budgets, contracts, and organizational policies
Supporting outreach, fundraising, and community engagement
Upholding the mission and representing the interests of all Holland residents
No prior board experience is necessary — we value lived experience, curiosity, and a willingness to show up.
How long is a board term?
Board members serve two-year terms with the option to run for re-election. Terms are staggered to ensure continuity.
Are there any legal responsibilities or concerns?
Yes — as a board member of a nonprofit, you have a fiduciary responsibility to the organization. This means acting in good faith, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ensuring the organization uses its resources lawfully and responsibly. HNIA carries Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance to help protect board members in the course of their duties.
Do I need to live in Holland to join the board?
While most board members are residents of the neighborhood, we welcome candidates who have a meaningful connection to Holland — including people who work, own property, or actively engage in the community.
How much time is required?
On average, board members commit 5–10 hours per month, including:
Monthly board meetings (90 minutes)
Committee work or event support
Occasional community meetings, trainings, or planning sessions
How do I apply or get involved?
We hold elections each year and encourage all interested neighbors to apply! Contact us at holland@hnia.org. We’re happy to meet one-on-one to talk more about what it’s like to serve.
